Watchmen - Alan Moore, Dave Gibbons

As a detour and a supposedly ‘light’ addition to my list I threw in a graphic novel. Having missed Watchmen at the cinema I took the opportunity to consider the source before the DVD appears. I say ‘light’ just because it has pictures; the subject is as intense as any.

It threw me around. With the exception of Jonathan Lethem books I don’t read much of what could be related to the Crime genre, and Motherless Brooklyn, Gun, With Occasional Music et al are hardly Straight Crime. Neither was this. Especially during the last 6 pages, when you discover everything you had previously learned-then found out to be something else-then believed was nothing like what it may have been.

It’s pretty funny too. It’s easy to see its influence on other comics and post-modern stories, and it’s quite bloody compelling.

I hope the film matches the scale and intensity of the book.
